Taste of Africa Strikes a Chord in Nashua, NH

One of the biggest challenges faced by businesswoman and entrepreneur LaFortune Jeannette Djabea when she first opened Mola Foods in 2016 in Nashua was that many people did not seem interested in African cuisine. Change, however, may be in the proverbial air, as her recent Taste of Africa events appear to resonate with people of all ages.

“I’m in complete awe to see how well these events have been widely accepted here in New Hampshire,” said Djabea, a native of Cameroon, a central African country on the Gulf of Guinea. “I really can’t express my gratitude enough.”

“I feel amazed to see how people are coming out of their shells or comfort zone.”

At Taste of Africa events, which often feature live music, guests are served meat and vegan dishes from different parts of Africa and wine from Averill House Vineyard in Brookline, NH. Taste of Africa, however, is more than a culinary experience. It is a journey into African culture.

“I feel amazed to see how people are coming out of their shells or comfort zone,” said Djabea, who said she asks guests “to try something new” at these events. “They dance to African songs – and to see people try and participate in this African experience makes my heart so full.”

Due to the continued success of these events, Djabea said she plans to host them throughout the summer and into the fall. “I want to keep the momentum going,” she said. “My hope is these events can not just fill people’s stomachs, but open their hearts to African culture.”
